GMS wins an award!

PGSD WINS BIG WITH PREPS, MAPE!

The Pascagoula-Gautier School District has won a total of 23 PREPS Value Added Awards and a MAPE Governor’s Award for Exemplary Partnership. The district will be honored at two luncheons at the 2018 Mississippi Education Partnership Conference Feb. 26-27 in Jackson, MS.

The Program of Research and Evaluation for Public Schools (PREPS, Inc.), is Mississippi’s only statewide educational consortium. MAPE is Mississippi Association of Partners in Education. Both organizations serve as hosts for the partnership conference.

The MAPE Governor’s Award is for the district’s Tech Camp for Teachers which will be offered for the fourth consecutive year this summer free of charge to teachers across the state. Partners for Tech Camp include PREPS, Howard Technologies, Curriculum Associates, School Status, Camcor, EverFi, Canvas, and 5 Points.

For the PREPS Value Added Awards, Gautier High and Pascagoula High swept every category, winning awards in Algebra I, Biology, U.S. History and English II.

In English/Language arts (3rd-8th grade), winning schools were Beach Elementary, Eastlawn Elementary, Lake Elementary, Gautier Elementary, Martin Bluff Elementary, Singing River Academy and Gautier Middle School.

In Math (3rd-8th grade), winning schools were Beach Elementary, Cherokee Elementary, Lake Elementary, Eastlawn Elementary, Gautier Elementary, Jackson Elementary, Martin Bluff Elementary and Gautier Middle School.

The PREPS Value Added analysis began in June 1997 and allows for valid comparisons of educational performance on the prior year’s state testing while taking into account the impact of differences in the socioeconomic background of the students considered in the research. The model is used in the PREPS Value Added Awards Program to identify high performing schools among Mississippi public school districts who are members of the PREPS Consortium.

Schools which are deemed as adding value are those performing significantly better than other schools with comparable socioeconomic circumstances. PREPS follows the mission of actively providing research and evaluation for public schools.
